Through this route we will discover the authentic side of central Crete learning the local way of life by passing through nine different villages in a few hours.
First stop is in a small traditional cheese factory in the village of Smari, where we will have the opportunity to try traditional Cretan cheese. Smari is a picturesque village, which you will have free time to explore after enjoying your coffee in one of the local traditional cafes of the village.
Then we will head to the archaeological site of Lytto, which you will have time to capture. There we will see the ruins of one of the strongest and possibly the oldest city in Crete. Ancient Lyttos or Lyktos, many Greek writers, including Homer, mention.
Following a beautiful route and heading to the olive grove we will pass through green olive groves. There we will see how to produce Cretan virgin olive oil and of course those who wish can try it.
Then we will start our ascent, where using dirt roads, we will pass through the gorge Of Ebassas. The view of the imposing mountains and the wild beauty of nature will reward you. At the short stop, the guide will collect various local herbs (oregano, thyme, sage) as the Cretans used to do.
The last stop will be in the traditional village of Krasi, reaching the village square, one will see the three huge planees and Vryses dominate. Among them stands the largest and perennial plane tree aged 2400 years, which is worth capturing.
